Obituary for Beverly "Buddy" Smith
After bringing laughter and joy to the lives of so many, Beverly “Buddy” Smith was suddenly taken from his earthly home to be with his Heavenly Father on the morning of Tuesday, October 15, 2019.
Buddy was born on April 27, 1957 to Virgie Smith Banks and Reuben Broadnax, Sr. Buddy played musical instruments and also was a really good artist. He attended the Amelia County school system and graduated with the class of 1975. Upon graduating, he pursued a career in construction contracting work and became self-employed later in life.
Buddy, or as some affectionately called him, “Buddy Love” was a bit of a character. He loved people, nature and the company of others, but also enjoyed being alone. He loved new experiences and was able to adapt to any situation he encountered. He could travel anywhere and you would find him talking to someone like he had known them all of his life.
Buddy’s life was difficult at times but he always managed to have a clever phrase or a joke to make you laugh. He could sleep anywhere at any time and had an insatiable appetite. His friends would often reflect on how much of a jokester he was and how he was the life of the party! His passion in life was collecting antiques, refurbishing them and trading/selling at yard sales or to whoever would buy them. He had the knack for making old things look new again.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his mother, Virgie Banks; a sister, Karen (Reggie) Moore; a nephew, Austyn Moore; devoted friends, Clinton Hyde, Grace Combs and Lorna Hines; a host of other relatives and friends.
This guy will truly be missed, but will NEVER be forgotten!
Funeral Services Saturday, October 19, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Liberty Baptist Church, Amelia. Interment church cemetery.
