On September 26, 2025, Deacon James Garfield Johnson went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. “Bossy” as he was affectionally called, learned about Christ at an early age.
He was an active member of the Good Hope Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon for many years. He was also the custodian of the Church inside and outside.
James was a member of the Southside Deacons Ministry for a number of years, traveling to different Churches in the surrounding counties. He loved cutting grass and, working in the yard and going to Church. He attended Bible Study on Wednesdays and Sunday School.
James worked in the pulpwood industry alongside his father and brother for many years. He also worked for Piedmont Geriatric Hospital, Burkeville VA as a Security Officer, providing services the Commonwealth for over 38 years.
James was preceded in death by his Wife, Minister Annie Johnson, Parents Helen and Joseph Johnson, Sr., and brothers Joseph L. Johnson, Sr., and Joseph L. Trent.
James leaves to cherish fond memories, Sisters Maizie Holmes of Crewe, VA and Sandria Johnson-Bennet (George) of Fort Washington, MD. Brother Harold L. Johnson, Sr. (Juiett) of Crewe, VA. Stepchildren Angela Lewis (Derrick), Michael Tuck, Arthur Tuck and Deborah Carey. 4 Grandchildren and 7 Great-Grandchildren, a devoted friend Ms. Thomasine Oliver and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
