Obituary for Gladys P Young
Gladys Pauline Hatchett Young entered eternal rest and peace on Monday, August 11, 2025, at Bon Secours Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg, VA at the age of 90 surrounded by loved ones.
Gladys was born on July 26, 1935, to George and Emma Hatchett. She was a devoted member of Mt Gazerine Baptist Church where she was baptized at an early age.
She was educated in Nottoway County Schools and dedicated her career to caring for the sick and elderly. Gladys’ passion was cooking, puzzles, reading, and sharing with others; she found joy in giving of her time and caring for children and the sick.
Gladys was a loving mother to her nine children Harolyn, Ira (Gail), Robert, Terrence (deceased), Geri (Calvin), Jon (Emily), Michael, Jackie, and Fred (Stacey). She was the grandmother to Jason, Erica, Ira, Joseph, Tanari, Iran, Avery, Bobby, Angel (deceased), Raina (Ricky), Twan, Rikki (Corbin), Michael (Ashley), Kobe, Maeka and Darrick. Gladys also has a host of great grandchildren including Tammy, Riley, Ryan, Alivia, Desmond, Chon, Ava, Samai, Anarhi, Masia, and N’Dia. She is also the loving aunt of her nephew Lee Irwin (Patrica), and nieces Sylvia, Deborah, and Gwendolyn. Gladys will be remembered for her kindness, unwavering generosity and love for her family and friends.
Gladys loved the Lord and her kind spirit, generosity and compassion touched the lives of many. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends and all who knew her.
