Obituary for Samuel R. Jones
Samuel Royal Jones, son of Texanna Price and William Jones was born October 6, 1937 in Amelia, VA. He departed this life on Thursday, February 7, 2019 at Centra Southside Community Hospital in Farmville, VA.
Samuel attended school in Amelia County and graduated from Russell Grove High School. He was a member of Amelia Baptist Church. He later joined High Rock Baptist Church, in Rice where he worked faithfully in the church as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher.
He worked for V-DOT for five years. Samuel enjoyed fishing, working on lawn mowers and hunting.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Willie Jones and John Booker; two sisters, Mary Robinson and Eva Robinson; four brothers-in-law, Garland Thompson, Junious Johnson, Junious Robinson and Linwood Robinson.
Samuel is survived by his wife, Edna B. Jones of Burkeville, VA; two sons, Randy Jones of Farmville, VA and Ellis Jones (Wendy)of Farmville, VA; one daughter, Sherry Carter (Peter) of Rice, VA; six grandchildren, Toni Jones (Shawn) of Portsmouth, VA, Amena Booth (Patrick) of Alexandria, VA, April Carter of Shreveport, LA, Peter Carter of Farmville, VA, Elli’s Jones of Farmville, VA and Laila Jones of Farmville, VA; two special cousins who was always there, Juanita Ross and Cora Rice; five sisters-in-law, Betty Booker (Simuel), Sarah Thompson, Viola Johnson, Corliss Jones and Pattie Booker; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral Services Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at 1:00 PM at High Rock Baptist Church, Rice. Interment church cemetery.
