On August 10, 1955, David Lee was born in Crewe, VA to Fred M Pettis and Dorothy K. (Pettis) Jennings, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by s sister, Ruth Rather.

David was educated in the Nottoway County School System. He accepted the Lord at an early age and was baptized at Union Baptist Church.
