Obituary for Horace Lee Bland
Horace L. Bland was born on April 13, 1932 the youngest son and the youngest child out of five children to the late General and Annie Bland of Amelia County, VA. He decided to pack up and leave us on October 30, 2018 for a better home.

Horace, better known to all of us as Jimmy was educated in the public schools of Amelia County and graduated from Russell Grove High School in the year of 1950. He joined the Gravel Hill Baptist Church where he attended Sunday School and most times he was there for church services when he did go, and he was always on time.

He was drafted into the United States Army where he remained for two years, mostly in Germany. After coming back from the Army, which was in the Korean War, he then went on to become a Farmer and he farmed flue cured tobacco for over fifty years and also in between time, cut pulpwood and logs. He loved to work and he was a good worker and leader at his jobs.

Horace or Jimmy, as we all called him was joined in Holy Matrimony to Martha Bland in the year of 1967. All those years were good and interesting, sometimes up and sometimes down, but still good.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Colas and Archer Bland; and a sister, Irene B. Gray.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife, Martha Bland of 51 years; his brothers-in-law, Earnest (Lessie) Trueheart of Victoria, VA, John (Linda) Trueheart of Waco, TX, Herbert and Winston Trueheart, both of Jetersville, VA; one sister-in-law, Lelia Grace Watson of Rice, VA; and one dear sister, Catharine White of Woodbridge, VA; devoted friends, Sarah V. Porter of Rice, VA, Earnest Adams of Rice, VA, Mrs. Frances C. Sutahin of Crewe, VA, Kenneth Jones of Jetersville, VA; a favorite cousin, Mrs. Bettie Foster of Amelia, VA; very good friends, Michael Hill of Chesapeake, VA and Samuel Jones of Burkeville, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral Services Friday, November 2, 2018 at 12:00 Noon at Michael W. Hawkes Funeral Home Chapel, Amelia. Interment Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia, Amelia.

Michael W. Hawkes Funeral Home of Amelia in charge of arrangements.
