Obituary for Annie L. Mondrey
Annie Louise Gilliam Mondrey, 101, of Amelia, Virginia, departed this life peacefully Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at home.
Annie was born January 13, 1917 in Amelia, daughter of the late Joseph and Hallie Gilliam Booker. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William H. Mondrey, (Stiff), children, Sarah Lee, Estelle Mondrey Banks Tillmon, and Thomas A. Mondrey; 1 Granddaughter, and 6 Grandsons; her siblings, Rosie, Macon, Milton, Nobel, Joseph, George, Vernal, Edna, Elrine, Sadie, Hallie, Andrew, Cecilia, and Lynn.
Annie was educated at Lodore School House in Amelia, Virginia. She joined Flower Hill Baptist Church at an early age under the leadership of her Grandfather.
To cherish her memory are her children, William J. Mondrey (Lois), Mary Jasper, and Louise Harris of Amelia, VA, Martha Smith of Chester, VA, Nancy Clarke (William Lee) of Powhatan, VA, Audrey Caison of Oxon Hill, MD, Augusta Thornton (David) of Powhatan, VA, and Paul, Victor and Andrew Mondrey (Sharon) of Richmond, VA, Marilyn Hicks (Garland) and Maxine Mondrey of Amelia, VA. God said, “Go forth and replenish the earth” and that she did. She also leaves to cherish her memory 48 grandchildren, 94 great-grandchildren, 75 great-great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-great grandchild. One sister, Estelle Pettis of Richmond, VA; two sisters-in-law, Ernestine and Frances Booker of Clairton, PA, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Our Mother was a unique and special lady who meant the world to us. She gave us encouragement, strength when we needed it, confidence when we couldn’t find our way in life, love when we went astray. We know that there was a God leading and guiding her every step of the way because she walked with God and talked to him. If it had not been for the Lord on her side, we don’t know where we would be. She prayed constantly day and night. Growing up we thought she was talking to herself, but as we got older, we realized she was talking to the Lord. Mom enjoyed cooking and welcomed everyone into her home. Those who visited, were fed some good food and she made sure they had something to take home with them.
She was loving to all her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, her sister, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. There will be a great void, an empty space in our lives but we know that if we know Jesus, we will see her again.
The will be no public viewing, family only.
Funeral Services Saturday, August 4, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at Flower Hill Baptist Church, Amelia. Interment church cemetery.
