Obituary for Modestine Sanders
Modestine was born to Betty Kearse and Prince Kinard on February 6, 1954 in Brooklyn, NY. She departed this life in the early morning hours at her home on July 17, 2018.
Modestine attended public schools in Brooklyn, NY, completing grades 1-12. As a young child she attended Stuyvesant Heights Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Saunders. As Modestine grew into womanhood, she began visiting other churches. She also took a liking to studying with Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Modestine enjoyed her life and the people whom she shared her life with. In the year 1997 Modestine was introduced to James Sanders and they became a couple. Relocating to Blackstone, VA, the couple was joined in marriage.
Modestine loved the Lord. She would go out visiting different churches hoping to find a home church. She began having studies on a weekly basis with Jehovah’s Witnesses and eventually started going to the Kingdom Hall.
Loved by many, Modestine was an amazing friend, sister, aunt, mother, grandmother and wife. She would call you just to say these words (I love you) and would never end a conversation with “goodbye” only “so long”. She will be missed deeply.
Modestine was preceded in death by her parents Betty and William Benjamin; her biological father Prince Kinard; and her sister Audrey Benjamin.
She leaves to cherish her memories: her loving husband James Sanders; step-mother Virginia Kinard; one daughter Jamilla Brake; three step daughters Theresa Spencer and husband Eric, Tabitha Baker and husband Rodney and Jeanette Sanders; thirteen grandchildren James and wife Liarpa, Jazmine, Eric Jr., Rodney II, Kayanis, Jaqwan and wife Brianna, Kayla, Jada, Kayvon, Jayzell, Jarell and Zina; two sisters Delores Smalls and husband James and Sureena Benjamin; six brothers Clyde and wife Iyesha, George, Michael, Jonathan, Alking, Robert (Sugg) and William Jr. (cowboy); ten aunts Josie, Vera, Anne, Eileen, Willie Mae, Ethel, Rosetta, Alice, Barbara and Elaine; one uncle John Baker; brother-in-law William Sanders and wife Shirley; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
