Obituary for Deacon Thelma Walker
Deacon Thelma Irene Evans Walker 89, gently and peacefully transitioned from this earth on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at her home in Blackstone, VA. She was ready to re-unite with her husband of fifty-three years.

Thelma, daughter of the late Faulkner and Agnes Hawkes Evans was born February 15, 1929 in the Spainville area of Blackstone, VA. She was the eight (8th) child of ten children.
She attended Nottoway County Public schools. At an early age she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was Baptized and became a member of Mt. Nebo Baptist Church. There she served on the Usher Ministry. Thelma married the love of her life, the late Deacon Courtney Walker, they were married for 53 years. After marrying Deacon Walker she moved her membership to Jerusalem Baptist Church Blackstone, VA. There she served on many ministries such as : Secretary, Deaconess, Treasurer, Missionary, Pastor's Aid, Choir and Chairperson of Deacon Ministry. She was also a member of the Blackstone Community Chorus and the Golden Age.

Deacon Walker worked at Clay's Rest Home in Blackstone, VA for 34 years from which she retired. She loved cooking, sewing, gardening and had a great love for flowers. Her greater love was serving the Lord and singing his praises. She loved helping anyone that needed help. Her motto was If I can help somebody along the way, then my living will not be in vain. She lived by the Serenity Prayer.

Thelma leaves to treasure her loving memories: her son Meriwether (Peter) Evans Of Blackstone, VA; One grandson Curtis (Inkey) Jefferson (Stephanie) of Lawrenceville, VA; two great grandsons DeVonne (Nut) Lewis (Raven) of Woodbridge, VA and Kurtis KeShawn (Pumpkin) Jefferson (Shaitia); two great-great grand children Hezekiah and Kylie; one God daughter Connie Hawkes; one God grand daughter Sherlisa Vaughan; two sisters Florence Hawkes of Blackstone, VA and Marion Friend of Richmond, VA; she also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, friends and a devoted friend Hattie McDuffie.

Funeral Service Sunday, June 17, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, 476 Mt. Nebo Rd., Blackstone. Interment Jerusalem Baptist Church Cemetery, Blackstone.
