Obituary for Deacon Waverly R. Watson, Sr.
Waverly Ray Watson, Sr. entered into eternal rest and peace on Wednesday, May 16, 2018. Waverly known to many as “Buck” was born on May 23, 1943 to the late Linwood and Mary Watson in Rice, Virginia.

At an early age Waverly began his lifelong Christian relationship by joining the Amelia Baptist Church where he served in many ministries including serving on the Trustee Board before his appointment to Chairmen of the Deacon Board where he served faithfully until his death. He was educated in the Amelia County School System and a graduate of Russell Grove High School. During his years in school, he was a great athlete with football being his major sport.

He was known throughout the community for his loving spirit and always had a story to share.
For many years he was a bus driver for Amelia County Schools. He learned a great work ethic from his father. Together they ran a logging business for a number of years. Upon his father’s retirement, the business became what is known to many as Buck Watson & Sons Logging Company. He ran this business for over 30 years. The success of his business is attributed to his strong Faith and Trust in GOD. He married the love of his life Lelia (Grace Ann) on April 14, 1962 and to this union three children were born.

Waverly was preceded in death by his parents, Linwood & Mary Watson and his sister Frances Ferguson (Robert); two brother-in-law Moses and Rainey Trueheart; and one step brother Johnny Birdsong. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted and loving wife Lelia Watson; two sons Waverly Watson, Jr (Renita) and Carston Watson (Elizabeth); one daughter Sandra Trimiew (Keith); nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Cora Rice (Joseph-Devoted) and Juanita Ross (Tony); stepmother Vivian Watson; one sister-in-law, Martha Bland (Jimmy); four brothers-in-law Earnest Trueheart (Lesley), Herbert Truehart, John Trueheart (Linda) and Winston Trueheart; two stepbrothers George and Keith Birdsong; four stepsisters, Barbara Ann Rather (Richard), Denise Stokes (Linwood), Deborah Vaughan (Marvin), and Margie Hawkes; one great aunt Elizabeth Bland; devoted cousins Samuel Jones and Katherine Lee; devoted friend Ernest Adams and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and devoted workers.
