Obituary for Lakia Lamont Blackwell
During the early morning of March 31, 2018, Lakia Lamont Blackwell, known as “Mont,” went home to be with the Lord peacefully in his sleep in Blackstone, VA. Lamont was the son, and only child, of Maxine Blackwell. He was born on March 9, 1975, in Richmond, VA. Lamont was blessed to be born to a loving and caring mother who reared him in developing life skills and good character traits.

Lamont accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. He was baptized and joined the Little Mount Baptist Church in Blackstone, VA. Lamont attended public schools in Brunswick County and was a 1996 graduate of Brunswick Senior High School in Lawrenceville, VA.

Lamont was a happy person, the life of the party and enjoyed being with his family and friends. His pleasing personality, ready smile and knack of reaching out to people in a deep and positive way were a joy to all who knew him. To have known him was to love him.

Lamont was preceded in death by grandparents James Algie and Mattie Blackwell, his uncle James Everett (“Junnie”) Blackwell, and his aunt Sheila Blackwell.

Lamont leaves to cherish his fondest memories his mother, Maxine Blackwell of Blackstone, a brother Anthony Winn of Kenbridge, VA. five aunts: Yvonne Leftwich (Arthur) of Brooklyn, NY, JoAnne Blackwell of Laurel Springs, NJ, Sadie Blackwell of Richmond, VA, Glorine Blackwell of Blackstone, VA and Cynthia Cisco of Midway, GA; an uncle Lawrence (Maye) Winn of Kenbridge, VA; sixteen cousins Gregory Leftwich, Arthur Leftwich, Jr., Christopher Leftwich, Kris Winborne, Michael Leftwich, Lisa Campbell, Jakel Meredith, Demetria Freeman, Crystal Crowley, Isaac Jones, Shannon Blackwell, Terrell Winn, Bernard Winn and Anthony Winn; close friends Melissa Jones, his (ace) Joey Blackwell, JaQuam Meredith; and a host of other relatives and friends.
While our hearts are torn at the thought of Mont no longer with us, we can take consolation in knowing that he found Christ early in life and is now resting in His arms.  Mont will be missed but never forgotten. He will always be remembered by all who knew and loved him as he was the life of the party.
