On Thursday morning, January 25, 2024, God dispatched one of his angels to go by the bedside of our beloved, Deacon Elwood Royal, Sr. and quietly called him home to rest in His Garden.
Deacon Royal was born on December 23, 1936 to the late Mrs. Daisy Lee Royal Robinson.
At an early age, he joined Mount Olive Baptist Church in which he served in many capacities. He was ordained as a Deacon on May 13, 1969, served as Superintendent and taught the Adult Class of Sunday School, in November of 1978 - organized the Youth Choir, was a member of the Senior Choir, President of the Male Chorus, member of the Ministers and Deacons Leadership Conference of Amelia, Chesterfield and Powhatan Counties, Treasurer and member of the Sensational Five Gospel Group, promoted the church to have 5th Sunday Services, the first Black Person to open and operate a Service Station in Amelia County.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Deaconess Vernelle Elaine Royal of 61 years and great granddaughter, Shariyan Sheff.
He leaves to cherish his memory: son, Elwood Royal, Jr. (Shirley); daughter, Reverend Cynthia Sims (Jerry); granddaughters, Paris Allen and Shardae E. Royal; great granddaughter, Nucirah Jones; three sisters-in-law, Mrs. Beatrice Alston, Mrs. Shirley White and Mrs. Marian Robinson; adopted daughter, Dr. Virginia Falck and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
