Obituary for Virgie H. Yates
Deaconess Virgie Huff Yates, surrounded by family at her residence in Blackstone, Virginia, heard the trumpet around 9:45 a.m., place her hand in God’s hand, and her spirit moved from her earthly body into eternal sleep. She was born on March 2, 1936 to the late Joe and Luvenia Huff. She was educated in Nottoway County. Deaconess Yates professed her faith in Christ at a young age and became an active and supportive member of the Cellar Creek Baptist Church. She faithfully served on the Senior Choir, Pastor’s Aid Ministry, Missions Ministry, Deaconess Ministry and the Christian Education Ministry.

Deaconess Yates retired in 2000 after 36 faithful years from Blackstone Primary School as a Cook. She enjoyed watching Reverend Arnold Murray on television, reading her bible, taking care of her grandchildren, and cooking especially her mouth watering biscuits. Deaconess Yates was a kind and very giving woman of God. She would always greet everyone with her infectious smile and would lend a hand to help anyone. She truly loved the LORD and her church family.

Deaconess Yates married Roger Lee Yates on June 29, 1956, who preceded her in death. Five children were born to this union. Cecil and Roger Yates Jr. who preceded her in death, Loretta, Louise and Delphine.

Deaconess Yates had one granddaughter Nicole Yates and one sister Josephine Woodson who also preceded her in death.

She leaves to cherish precious and loving memories: three loving and devoted daughters, Loretta (Harvey) Greenhill; Louise Evans, Delphine Yates; one step-son Kevin (Latisha) Jones all of Blackstone, VA; one daughter-in-law, Madeline Yates of Chesterfield, VA; twelve grandchildren, Tonya Eppes, Shaunda (Napoleon) Yates, Evette Sellars, and Aziah Evans, all of Blackstone, VA, Terrese (Michael) Jennings of Burkeville, VA, Levar Graham and Sharise Yates of Richmond, VA, LaVette Sellars and Michelle Yates of Chesterfield, VA, Donnita (Walter) Robertson of Lewisberry, PA, Frazier (Aszudee) Evans of Riverside, CA, Roger (Veronica) Yates, III of Chesapeake, VA; 36 great grandchildren; two brothers, Amos Huff of Ford, VA and Joe Huff of Blackstone, VA; two sisters, Clara (Melvin) Evans and Ethel Wright of Blackstone, VA; two brothers-in-law, James (Elise) Yates of Upper Marlboro, MD and Rudolph (Stephanie) Yates of Washington, DC; two sisters-in-law; Lucille Campbell and Ethel Roy of Blackstone, VA; a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Toward the end of her life, she did what she enjoyed best, taking care of children, she helped her daughter take care of four children, Tristian, Kerrigan, Raheem and Zoey.

Funeral Service Friday, March 16, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Cellar Creek Baptist Church, Blackstone. Interment church cemetery.
