Obituary for Ellis S. Currin, Jr.
Ellis Spencer Currin, Jr. was born October 7, 1942 in Wilmington, NC. His parents Ellis and Mable later moved to Virginia where he grew up. He departed this life on November 29, 2017
Ellis graduated with the class of 1961 from Luther H. Foster High School in Nottoway, VA. When he was nineteen he moved to New York City.
Ellis joined the United States Air Force and was made Sergeant in eighteen months. After serving his four years in the Air Force, he then joined the Army National Guard in Holyoke, MA where he finished his military career with Honorable Discharges from both the Air Force and the Army. While serving in the military, he was in SAC, strategic air command of the 397 Unit and had a national clearance. He was also an Honor Guard for President John F. Kennedy, and he guarded nuclear weapons in the Cuban missile crisis and the Vietnam War.
Ellis settled in Hartford, CT and got a job at Pratt & Whitney and then ADT American District Telegraph from which he retired as a supervisor.
Ellis was a 320 Master Mason, he did a lot of charity work with youth groups, food drives and families in need. Also he did a lot of charitable work for the Emmanuel Church of David in Hartford, CT.
Ellis believed in justice, and was not scared to fight for it.
He earnestly believed in Jesus Christ and was not ashamed to speak about Him in public.
He had a saying “ Don’t let one monkey stop your show”.
Ellis is survived by his loving wife of forty-seven years, Sybil Currin; his four sons, David Currin, Peter Currin, Daniel Currin and Matthew Currin; his grandchildren; a host of other family, friends and the whole Currin family in North Carolina.
This part of Ellis Spencer Currin, Jr. life has come to a close, but he has passed on to glory and we look forward to meeting him again.
Graveside Services Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at 12:00 noon at Springhill Baptist Church Cemetery.
