Obituary for Gloria J. Yates

A Time to Be Born

Gloria J. Yates (Gobee) 69, was born on April 30, 1953 to the late Arthur and Cora Jackson in Crewe VA.

A Time to Plant

Gloria graduated from Luther H. Foster High School. She continued her education at John Tyler & Southside Community college where she obtained an Associates degree. She was preceded in death by her parents; and six siblings Baby Jackson, Lawrence Green, Jack Green, Barbara Johnson, Carolyn Jackson and Rosa Barrett

A Time to Embrace

At an early age she began her Christian walk at Fourth Mount Zion Baptist Church. Gloria was a faithful servant of God.. Anyone who knew her quickly found out that she had a genuine love for God and her family. She was one of the founding organizers for the youth department. She served as President & Vice President of the Senior Choir along with being the choir director for many years. Gloria loved and cherished both her church families, Fourth Mount Zion and Cellar Creek. She was a faithful member even throughout her illness she would dial in for both services.

A Time to Build Up

Gloria married Napoleon Yates, Jr. on October 13,1979. To this union they were blessed with two sons, Bradley Jackson and Napoleon Yates III. Gloria worked several jobs over the years, Cross Roads, The Richmond Voice newspaper and retired from Piedmont Geriatric Hospital after 20 plus years of service for the Commonwealth of Virginia. Gloria touched many lives. She had true unconditional love for her husband, children, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. Upon the discovery of her illness, in a true “Gobee” type of way, she scripted out how she wanted her last days spent. Her message to her family and friends, “Remember me how you knew me”. Her husband and sons honored her every wish until her last breath.

A Time to Mourn

It was early morning, October 24, 2022, when Gloria quietly and peacefully answered God’s call to come home, while at her residence surrounded by her family. She remained Faithful until the end and still gave glory to God until her last breath.
