Obituary for Otis Jones
Otis Jones, 82 of Burkeville, VA departed this life on May 21, 2022, peacefully at his home surrounded by his brother, McKinley E. Jones (Kenneth), Catherine (Tina) and Demetriss (Do Dad) all by his side. He was born October 13, 1939 in Burkeville to loving parents, McKinley and Sallie Mae Jones.
Otis accepted Christ at an early age and joined Macedonia Baptist Church where he remained a lifelong member. He loved his church family and sang in the senior choir for many years until his health no longer allowed him to do so.
Otis attend Luther H. Foster High School, after high school, he moved to Baltimore, MD where he worked in a Greek restaurant, and industrial bakery and also did construction work. Years later he moved back to Burkeville, VA and landed his favorite job working as a skilled laborer at the veneer plant where he worked thirty plus years.
He would tell us so many stories of the fun times he had working there. It was during this time he met his very special friend, Delia Marshall. He was always a kind gentle soul willing to help others. Otis helped to look after and guide many nieces, nephews and children from the neighborhood that loved him dearly and they will never forget all he did for them. He loved listening to his radio and of course his favorite was listening to Coffee Chat before it went off the radio. Everyone that knew him knew exactly where to find him after he retired and that was his chair on the porch.
Otis was one of nine children, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Roger, Willie and Edward; his sisters, Margaret, Nannie and Bernice. He is survived by one brother, McKinley Jones of Burkeville, VA; one sister, Minnie Pearl Jefferson of Richmond, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends that he loved very much.
