Obituary for Chester W. Pegram
Chester William Pegram,77, of Amelia, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday May 12, 2021. “Sweet Thing” as he was affectionately called by his mother was born on January 30, 1944, to David and Capitola Pegram.
Chester graduated from Russell Grove High School Class of 1962 in Amelia, Virginia as one of the top in his class. He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Little Bethel Baptist Church, Amelia, Virginia.
Chester worked for the Bezares Family as a woodsman after many years as a machine operator and laborer at both Standard Paper Company, Richmond, Virginia and Johns Manville in Blackstone, Virginia.
Very proper, articulate, well-versed, “Feedy” as he was fondly called by family and friends appeared very shy, quiet, and reserved until he took a “lil sip”, hit the dance floor, strummed the strings of his guitar then transformed into the life of the party. Singing his favorite song “Ghetto Man” by Marvin Sease along with an array of other songs both gospel and secular. He entertained many including the Amelia Emergency Squad on multiple occasions.
Chester was preceded in death by his parents, David and Capitola Pegram; brothers Carl Pegram (Mary), Oscar (Viola); and sister Fannie Lyles. He is survived by a wife, Alice Faye; a devoted son, Kevin (Marlene); a dedicated niece, Tiffany Pegram; his grandchildren, Shavonna Britt (Vincent), Shaniesha Dickerson (Desmone), Riesha Pegram, Keionnia Hopkins, and Janae Freeman; seven great grands, Royall, Malyeek, Syncere, Kai and Kristian; his brothers, Samuel Pegram (Dallas), Levi Pegram (Carolyn), Henry Pegram and Theodore Pegram (Gail); brother-in-law Benjamin Reed (Jennifer); sister-in-law, Mable Archer; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
