Obituary for Sarah B. Coleman
SARAH B. COLEMAN, 98, daughter of the late Henry and Lucy Harris Bland, entered eternal rest on Saturday, August 1, 2020, at Imperial Plaza Nursing Home in Richmond, Virginia.
She was born April 24, 1922, in Dinwiddie, Virginia and was the sixth of seven children. She was preceded in death by brothers Morris, Walter, Richard, Jessie, and Edward, and sister Lula Bell. She obtained her education in the public schools of Dinwiddie County, VA.
She was married to her first husband, Cleveland Bush, and to that union they had one son, Milton. After Mr. Bush’s death, God then sent her best friend and life partner, Mallory Coleman. They were married December 13, 1957 in Emporia, Virginia. They remained soul mates until his death. She continued to manage and operate Mr. Coleman’s rental property business after his passing and assisted several families with housing in the Blackstone, Virginia area. She was a long time caregiver for members of the Epes family, owners of Epes Transport.
She was a devout Christian and a faithful and devoted member of Mt Zion RZUA Church in Blackstone, Virginia, where she served as Church Clerk for 47 years. In addition, she was a Deaconess, Trustee, Sunday School teacher, and served on the Missionary Circle and Senior Choir. She was also a member of the Blackstone Community Chorus that toured and performed throughout Virginia. She was known to transport the youth and elderly to Sunday School and Church services with her personal van.
Mrs. Coleman was an incredible role model and could never sit still. One of her famous quotes was, “If you fail…fail trying.” She was a kind, compassionate and loving women who was ever ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. Her love for people was displayed by her care and concern for elderly residents in Blackstone as she often transported them to doctor’s appointments and visited them regularly at nursing homes and hospitals.
Sorrowfully recognizing her death, but joyfully reflecting her life, those left to cherish her memory are her son, Milton R. Bush (Lucille) of Ruther Glen, Virginia; one granddaughter, Candace Bush of Atlanta, Georgia; devoted niece and nephew, Virginia & Jessie Tucker of Blackstone, Virginia; nieces Carrie Bland Hobbs & Barbara Tucker, both of Blackstone, Virginia; Caregivers: Greta Stewart, Tanya Clayton, Doris Maclin, Pearl Neal, Florine Shelton, and Eunice Lee; one step-grandson, William Foxx (Debbie) of Fredericksburg, Virginia, two step great grandsons, one step great-great grandson and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
