Obituary for Rosa A. Hicks
Rosa Augusta Hicks, affectionately known as “Sis,” was born on February 11, 1954 in Nottoway County to the late Willie and Estelle Booker Hicks. She quietly left this earthly realm on July 25, 2020 at Johnston Willis Hospital in Richmond, VA.

Rosa accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal savior at a young age and joined the Gravel Hill Baptist Church where she remained an active member. It brought her great joy to serve as an Usher in the Lord’s house each Sunday. She received her education in the Nottoway County Public School system where she graduated in 1972. She was employed with the Crewe Garment Factory for many years and then went on to work at Caddis Manufacturing, GBC and Hudson Industries in the years to follow until she retired in 2016.

Rosa was a devoted mother, loving grandmother, dedicated sister, supportive aunt, and thoughtful friend. Her compassionate demeanor allowed her to shower everyone she met with love. Her contagious smile was one of the many ways in which she touched the hearts of others. She enjoyed spending time with her family and took great pride in making sure everyone was well fed at each family gathering. She always looked forward to the conversations with her daughter and seeing pictures and videos of her grandson which brought her such joy, you could always hear the smile in her voice thru the phone. She also made sure to share the latest “Our Daily Bread” booklet with her nieces and nephews as a reminder to always stay close to God in all that you do. In every aspect of her life, she was a true testament to the joy of the Lord is my strength.

She was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Paul Sims, brother, Hubert “Becky” Hicks and niece, Tonya Bland-Ward. Rosa leaves to cherish her memory her loving daughter TaKisha (Kimberly) Bland of Orlando, FL, grandson Jonathan Bland of Orlando, FL, a truly devoted niece that was like a second daughter to her LaJuanda Bland of Chesterfield, a lifelong companion John Bland of Amelia; five sisters, Martha (Gerald) Bland of Amelia, Elsie (Mack) Robinson of Chesterfield, Ruby Sims of Burkeville, Mae (Arthur) Miller of Meherrin, Gertrude Hicks of Burkeville; three brothers, Earl (Floria) Hicks of Burkeville, William Hicks of Burkeville and Willie Hicks, Jr. of Crewe; one aunt, Annie Mae Watson of Farmville; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral Services Friday, July 31, 2020 at 12:00 noon at Michael W. Hawes Funeral Home, Amelia. Interment Craft Family Cemetery, Burkeville.
