Obituary for William H. Robinson
Deacon William Hannibal Robinson, “Hanabe” entered eternal rest on Thursday, April 16, 2020 at the age of 96. Hanabe was born June 28, 1923 to the late Addie and Enion Robinson in Amelia, VA. He attended school in Greenburgh.

In 1941, he joined the Army where he was stationed in Germany and fought in WWII. For his service and heroism Sergeant Robinson was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal, and the European, African, Middle East Service Ribbons. In May of 2109, he was inducted into the Veterans Hall of Fame in Albany, NY by Senate Majority Leader, Andrea Stewart-Cousins. He received numerous awards for serving his country. After receiving an honorable discharge in 1945, he married the love of his life, Elsie Surlenza Banks. They were married for 45 years and from this union came 6 children.

Hanabe retired for General Motors after 33 years. He served as a Police Auxiliary for Greenburgh County for 23 years and a school bus driver in the school system in Greenburgh, NY for several years before fully retiring.

Hanabe received Christ as his personal Savior, was baptized and joined Promise Land Baptist Church, Amelia, VA. After becoming a faithful member, he was asked to walk as a Deacon and was later ordained a Deacon in the Lords Church. He later joined Universal Cathedral Ministries under the leadership of Pastor Andrew L. Campbell. Upon his return to White Plains, NY he joined the Union Baptist Church, where he was actively involved in all church activities and services. He will be remembered for his quick wit, infectious smile and his kind compassionate spirit.

Hanabe loved to travel, spend time with his family, playing cards and cooking breakfast for “the guys”.

Hanabe was preceded in death by his parents, siblings and wife. He leaves to cherish his memories his linage, Christopher Jefferson; Theresa Robinson-Ewing (Thomathy); William A. Robinson (Deirdra); James Robinson; Samuel Robinson; Addie Patricia Robinson (Mark Wilson); 21 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; 2 sisters-in-law; 2 brothers-in-law; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Private services held.
