Obituary for Jon D. Harris, Jr.
MR. JON D. HARRIS, JR., affectionately known to many as “Bo” was born November 12, 1957 in Brooklyn, NY to the union of Mr. Jon D. Harris, Sr. and Mrs. Mary L. Harris. He moved from this earthly home to his heavenly home on Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at the McGuire Veterans Hospital, Richmond, VA.
He was educated in the New York public school system, where he received his high school diploma from Andrew Jackson High School. His desire for knowledge did not stop there. He continued his education through the United States Air Force where he received numerous awards and certificates. He had a lifelong desire for knowledge and new experiences. He served for a number of years in the Air Force where his expertise as an aircraft mechanic opened the doors for many civilian job opportunities with companies such as TWA Airlines, Boeing Company and Martin Manietta. Jon’s passion for driving took him many places on the highway as a truck driver.
He confessed Christ at a very early age and was baptized at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Queens, NY. He rededicated his life to Christ at the New Prospect Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Joseph A. Jones, Jr. in the year of 2007.
On June 15, 1983, Jon was joined in Holy Matrimony to the love of his life, Ms. Linda J. Watson. Their love for each other was there for all to see. It took them from their home and family to several states and across the country. Their love for God, for each other, and family created a bond that will never be broken.
Jon was preceded in death by his sister, Deborah H. Jute. He leaves to cherish his memories forever: his loving, caring and devoted wife of twenty-five years, Mrs. Linda J. Harris of Blackstone, VA; parents, Jon and Mary Harris of Crewe, VA; two brothers, Reverend Michael Person, Sr. (Brenda) of Lithonia, GA and Mr. Brian Harris of Delrey, FL; two nephews, Mr. Jason Harris (Princess) of Richmond, VA and Mr. Michael Person, Jr. of Lithonia, GA; two nieces, Ms. Tiffany Person of Lithonia, GA and Ms. Mariah Hurt of Burkeville, VA; two great nieces, Ms. Zakia Harris of Lawrenceville, VA and Ms. Skylar Person of Lithonia, GA; grandmother-in-law, Mrs. Leola Watson of Blackstone, VA; three brothers-in-law, Mr. Willie Watson (Nita) and Mr. Ray Watson (Londa) of Las Vegas, NV and Mr. Garnet Jute of Waldorf, MD; two sisters-in-law, Ms. Nora McKenzie of Blackstone,
VA and Ms. Annette Moore of Pine Bluff, AR; eleven aunts, seven uncles; other nieces, nephews, and a host of loving cousins and numerous friends.
