Obituary for Arthur E. Giles
Deacon Arthur Ellis Giles, 90, of Amelia County, VA met his God and joined Him on Sunday, February 28, 2010 after a brief period of declining health. He was surrounded by his family at the Hunter Holmes Veterans Medical Center.
He was a US Army veteran of WWII. He was born on October 7, 1919 and was one of seven siblings, all except two deceased.
Deacon Giles was preceded in death by his parents, James and Estelle Giles; siblings, three sisters, Dorothy G. Spratley, Elnora G. Arrington, Anna G. Worsham and brother Ed Morris Giles and grandson, James Ellis Giles, Jr.
He leaves to cherish fond memories, his devoted wife of 65 years, Rosa C. Giles; sons; James (Jewell); John (Mary); Jerome (Marion); daughters; Jeannette (Jerry) Crenshaw; Joyce (Herbert) Hicks; Dorothy Thompkins; Eleanor Anderson; Juanita (Joseph) Baker and a caring son-in-law, Donald Thompkins; 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; He is also survived by two sisters, Virginia (Wendell) Haskins, and Rosa (Herbert) Hill; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins; extended family members and friends; his loving church family and his Masonic Lodge brothers.
Family visitation will be held at Michael W. Hawkes Funeral Home, 15001 Patrick Henry Highway, Amelia, VA from 5 pm to 7 pm on Thursday, March 4. Funeral services will be held at Mt. Level Baptist Church, Friday, March 5 at 12 noon. Interment will be at 3 pm at the Virginia Veterans Cemetery, 10300 Pridesville Road, Amelia, VA.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Mount Level Baptist Church Building Fund, 900 Wills Road, Amelia, VA 23002 or McGuire VA Hospice Unit, 1201 Broad Rock Blvd., Richmond, VA 23249.
