Obituary for Edward Jr. Overby
MR. EDWARD “EDDIE” OVERBY JR., answered the Master’s call on Saturday, April 10, 2010 following a long illness at Southside Community Hospital in Farmville, Virginia at 2:30 a.m. He was born on February 4, 1935 in Mecklenburg County, Virginia to Edward and Laura Overby. He attended Mecklenburg County Public Schools and at an early age he joined Union Hill Church in South Hill, Virginia.
Eddie moved to New Jersey at an early age where he lived for a number of years. Later he returned to Virginia where he worked as a store manager for various grocery chains in the Richmond, Virginia area. He worked as a store manager until his retirement in 1997. His favorite hobbies were hunting, in which he was a member of the Powhatan Midlothian Hunt Club for a number of years; fishing, cooking, gardening and enjoying life with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Laura Overby; daughter, DeLicia Jackson; brother, Alexander Overby; and sister, Nora Mae Freeman.
Eddie will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him. He leaves to cherish his fond memories: a devoted wife, Geraldine Goodman Overby; five children, Cindy (devoted) and Catherine Jackson of Powhatan, Virginia, Faith Overby of Richmond, Virginia, Ronald Overby of New Jersey and Ricky Overby of Virginia; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Davis and Barbara McLean of New Jersey; two brothers, Charles Overby of Virginia and Robert Overby of New Jersey; seven sisters-in-law; nine brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services Saturday, April 17, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at Chester Grove Baptist Church, Amelia with interment in the church cemetery.
