Obituary for Mattie B. Weaver
Peacefully sleeping, resting at last,
Her weary trials and troubles past,
In silence she suffered, in patience she bore,
Till God called her home to suffer no more.
Mattie Beulah Weaver, daughter of the late Richmond Palmer, Sr. and Fannie Ann Johnson Palmer, was born in Nottoway County, Virginia, on December 10, 1930. She entered into eternal rest at Community Memorial Hospital in South Hill, Virginia, on September 4, 2010.
She became a member of Little Mount Baptist Church at a very young age and remained a member until her death. She showed a divine sense of love for her family and friends and loyalty to her church, serving on the usher board and as a member of the choir.
Mattie’s early education was received in Brunswick County and she graduated from St. Paul’s High School in 1950. She was employed as a seamstress by Rollic in Lawrenceville, Virginia, for many years. She also worked for Haas Tailoring as a seamstress in Baltimore, Maryland, until she returned to Virginia in later years.
In 1953, Mattie was joined in holy matrimony to the late William Sherman Coleman. To this union, two children were born: Sherman Ray Coleman and Wayne Darnell Coleman. In 1977, she was also united in holy matrimony to the late William “Att” Weaver.
She was preceded in death by her son, Sherman R. Coleman, and brother, Leon M. Palmer.
She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Wayne Darnell Coleman (Patricia) of Dundas, Virginia; one grandson, Wayne Darnell Coleman, Jr., of Dundas, Virginia; three sisters, Phyllis Small and Florence Booth of Dundas, Virginia, and Marilyn Rollins (Carlton) of Waldorf, Maryland; two brothers, Freeman F. Palmer (Emma) of Washington, D.C., and Richmond J. Palmer (Betty) of Hampton, Virginia; a very special aunt, Emily Edmonds of Waldorf, Maryland; three nieces, Vanessa Palmer-Jones (Aaron), Yolanda D. Palmer, and Natasha C. Palmer; two nephews, Freeman L. Palmer, and Anthony Rollins; two great-nephews, Aaron Jahi Jones and Khalid Jones, other relatives, and friends.
Memorial Services Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at 12:00 noon at Little Mount Baptist Church, Blackstone with private interment.
