Obituary for John L. Branch, Sr.
Mr. John L. Branch, Sr., departed this life on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 after a brief illness at St. Francis Medical Center, Richmond, VA. He was born in Nottoway County to the late Langston and Pricilla Branch.
He was educated in the Nottoway County public schools and graduated from Nottoway Training School. He later enlisted into the United Stated Army and was Honorably Discharged. John accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Cellar Creek Baptist Church in Blackstone, VA.
He was employed with Central State Hospital, Petersburg, VA and retired after twenty-seven years of service.
John was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Branch and a sister, Betty Harrington.
John entered into holy matrimony with Bertha Mable Branch, she preceded him in death.
John was a humble person, he met and made many friends along the way. He always kept a smile and had a way of making you laugh with his great sense of humor. John enjoyed fishing, farming and helping others. He will be greatly missed.
He leaves to cherish his memories: two sons, John L. Branch, Jr. (Jackie) and Ronnie E. Branch of Blackstone, VA; one step-son, James R. Harper of Baltimore, MD; four loving daughters, Mildred D. Branch of South Hill, VA, Charlotte B. Worsham (Jerry) of Richmond, VA, Sandra D. Branch and Cheryl Y. Branch of Blackstone, VA; one sister, Alice M. Doswell of Blackstone, VA; six grandchildren, Barbara Jones “Punkin”, Corey Branch, Brandom Worsham, Sampson Williams III, Brittany Branch and Coby Branch; seven great grandchildren, Jaymese Jones, Jayla Jones, JayKima Jones, Camren Branch, Ayden Branch, Kiara Worsham and Xavier Fowlkes; three step-
grandchildren, Carnell, Corey and Chris Harper; ten step-great grandchildren; five sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; two nieces, Edora Greenhill and Nancy Doswell; two nephews, Randall Doswell and Anthony Harrington; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Cellar Creek Baptist Church, Blackstone with interment in the church cemetery.
