Obituary for Thomas Yates
On Tuesday morning October 2, 2013, Mr. Thomas Yates entered into eternal rest at McGuire Medical Center in Richmond, VA .  Thomas was born to Robert Lee and Annie Mae Yates on March 1, 1949.   Both of his parents, and one brother Eddie, preceded him in death.
Thomas was educated in the Nottoway County Public Schools.  He joined the Cellar Creek Baptist Church at an early age.
He joined the United States Army in March of 1969 and served his country until June of 1975, when he was Honorably Discharged.
After leaving the army, he was employed at Piedmont Geriatric Hospital, Fort Pickett and McGuire Medical Center from which he retired.
Thomas loved the outdoors, he was always in his yard making sure it was neat and beautiful.  He always planted a garden and was tinkering around with junk.  He believed in “one man’s junk is another man’s treasure”.
Thomas was very active at Cellar Creek, where he served as a Deacon, Chairman of the Trustee Ministry, member of the Male Chorus and Sunday School Teacher.  He was dedicated to keeping the church yard mowed and anything that he could do to enhance the building of God.
Before his passing he would be testifying about the goodness of the Lord and how much he loved him.
Thomas leaves to cherish his memory:  a loving and devoted wife of eighteen years, Virgie; two sons, Jamelle and Quinton; five step-sons, Chermak, Larry, Bobbie, Michael and Vater; one step-daughter, Denise; two brothers, Richard and Michael; two sisters-in-law, Virginia and Glenda; one uncle, Gussie Dagner; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.  Lisa, his riding partner really misses him.
