Obituary for Fannie A. Gaffney
Fannie Agnes Austin Gaffney was born September 1, 1922 to the union of Edgar Marion Austin and Lavinia Quarles Austin at what is now known as the Austin Place in the Fort Pickett area of Blackstone, VA. It is now occupied by Officers of the military.
She graduated from the Nottoway Training School as Valedictorian of her class in 1940. She then attended Virginia State College in Petersburg, VA and graduated. During her professional career, she taught in the school system of Nottoway and Lunenburg Counties, and did tax preparation for many residents of the community.
She was united in marriage to Theodore R. Gaffney, Sr., (who preceded her in death) and as a result of this union, she inherited two step-children, Verely Gaffney (now Verely Trent) and Theodore R. Gaffney, Jr. (now deceased); one granddaughter, Deandrea B. Walker; two grandsons, Theodore R. Gaffney, III and Joseph Gaffney-Trent.
She had been consistently active in the church community throughout her adult life. She became a member of Springhill Baptist Church at a very early age and remained so throughout her life. She was also very active with her husband’s religious affiliation during her lifetime as well.
She is survived by one daughter, Verely Gaffney Trent; one granddaughter, Deadrea Walker; two grandsons, Theodore R. Gaffney, III and Joseph Gaffney-Trent; other relatives and friends.
 Funeral Services Thursday, July 10, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at Springhill Baptist Church, Blackstone with interment in the church cemetery.
