Obituary for Pinkie Gordon Stewart
Pinkie Pearl Gordon Stewart was born on March 15, 1933 to the late Bernard and Blanch Gilliam Gordon of Kenbridge, VA. She graduated from Lunenburg High School. At an early age, Pinkie Pearl was baptized and accepted Christ as her Savior at Cedar Creek Baptist Church.
She was one of seven children (one sister and two brothers preceded her in death). She was the beloved wife of the late Haynie Stewart, Jr. for over 55 years until his passing in 2008. From this marriage, they had four children: Greta, Julius, Cynthia and Quinton (who preceded her in death).
Pinkie Pearl was affectionately called Pearl by her children, Gam-ma Pearl by her grand and great grandchildren, Aunt Pearl by all her nieces and nephews, and Big Sis Pearl by her siblings. Pearl was such a joy to be around, always full of humor and making everyone contagious with laughter. She had a fiery spirit and was the one in the family that everyone looked for at the family functions. She loved dancing and always enjoyed all music (gospel, R&B, blues, etc.). She had a passion for all styles of jewelry and wore it very well.
Pearl resided in the home with daughter Cindy after Dad passed. Those two together were twins. Lulu, as we call her , devoted all her time to being a caregiver for Mother. She really took good care of Mother and us. We thank God for her (Lulu). Our sister-in-law Brenda was also always there for Pearl. She ministered to Pearl daily with Big Love. Tyrone "Baldie" as she called him, always was there, but Mother would say, "He is sleep, How can he watch me"?. Tiffany, her #1 granddaughter, will remember Pearl's favorite expression, "Tiff, now wait a minute, wait a minute". Bootsie was relieved when Lulu called for "Break". She was there to bring Pearl to Virginia. Pearl and Bootsie "Kept it Real". Pearl called her the "Warden". She was always - Pearl you can do this, now let's do it; stop being lazy. Nephew Roscoe was always on the phone talking with Pearl. Niece Ann would always drop in for a visit with Aunt pearl at anytime.
Thank God for her visits to Philadelphia with her nieces, nephews, and her sisters-in-law that loved her like their sister. Pearl enjoyed their good cooking and eating.
Pinkie leaves to cherish her memories, her children:Â Greta Bootsie Stewart of Kenbridge, VA, J. Tyrone Stewart (Brenda) and Cynthia Parham (Michael) of Baltimore, MD; five caring granddaughters:Â Tiffany, Lauren, Summer, Paulette and Lynn; seven great grandchildren (two of whom she raised, Jawaun and Christopher; two great-great granddaughters, Aubree Lynn and Lark Rose of Baltimore, MD; two sisters, Rose Reavis of Richmond, VA and Emma Jones of Blackstone, VA; one brother, Franklin Gordon of Kenbridge, VA; sisters-in-law, Gertrude, Minnie and Georgia Gordon of Kenbridge, VA, Thelma Morris (Tommy) and Weltha Hooks (Frank); devoted cousin, Carl Foster of Philadelphia, PA; Aunt Kenzie Meekins of New Jersey; a life time family friend, Clarence Brown; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
