Obituary for Zipporiah D. Tucker
Zipporiah Elizabeth Dyson Tucker, affectionally known as “Zip, Zippy, Lizzie, Dynamite, Aunt Swip and Granny” was the 10th child born to Walter and Mary Ford Dyson on July 2, 1939 in Crewe, Virginia.
She accepted Christ as her savior at an early age and was baptized at Bethesda Presbyterian Church in Nottoway, VA where she also served as an active member of the Bethesda Choir and Church Elder until her health began to fail.
Zippy received her education in the Nottoway County public schools as well as an Associate degree in Human Services from Southside Community College on June 10, 1988. Zippy retired from Piedmont Geriatric Hospital, as an Activities Supervisor, after 36 years of dedicated service.
Zippy was a social butterfly, never meeting a stranger, and an avid traveler, visiting many cities throughout the United States, Canada, the Caribbean, as well as several locations in Europe. She was also an expert in crocheting, teaching several of her friends and family members the art. She was a Life Member of the Order of the Eastern Star of Virginia. She was an active member of the Nottoway County School Mentoring Program.
She married Billy H. Tucker October 17, 1970. She was a loving wife and mother. She was the grandmother to the apple of her eye, her favorite basketball player/coach, her beloved grandson, Jarren, whom she praised at any given opportunity to anyone who would listen.
She entered eternal rest on Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at Johnston Willis Hospital in Richmond, Virginia after a lengthy illness.
Zippy was preceded in death by parents Walter and Mary Dyson; husband Billy H. Tucker; and 11 siblings.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories: two devoted daughters Elayne (Dwayne) of Hampton, VA and Wanda of Crewe, VA; grandson Jarren (Casey) of Easton, PA; one brother James (Lucille) Dyson, Sr. of Blackstone, VA; one sister Barbara (James) Bridgeforth of Crewe, VA; brothers-in-law Dwight Tucker, Nathaniel Tucker, Daniel Tucker, Robert (Edna) Tucker and Gary (Pat) Tucker, all of Crewe, VA. Devoted friends and caregivers, Mary J. Hawkes and Florine Shelton; childhood friend, Cathleen Ward, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many very special friends.
Funeral Services Tuesday,, July 31, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at Nottoway Middle School Auditorium, Crewe.
Interment Dyson Family Cemetery, Crewe.
