Obituary for Zachary T. Jennings
Zachary Tyler Jennings (“Zach”) was born on January 11, 1993. He came into the world against the odds. His mother, Decolya Jennings, spent the last month of pregnancy completely bedridden with instructions that any movement could cause Zach to be born prematurely. She managed to carry Zach for almost seven months before he was born. Zach weighed 2 lbs. and 12 ounces at birth. Doctors informed Zach’s parents of his slim prospect at survival and the real possibility that upon survival, there would be lifelong health issues.

But God knew better. Zach grew into a happy and healthy young man. He spent his childhood in Richmond, Virginia spending time with his cousins and friends. They got together every weekend to play pranks and enjoy each other’s company. Zach also enjoyed sports, especially basketball. He often challenged his cousins and friends to one-on-one basketball games. Folks who knew Zach knew he did not take losing lightly. He was a fierce competitor. The family moved to the Atlanta metro area when Zach was 13 years old. Zach adapted well. He eventually played high school football in Stone Mountain, Georgia for Stephenson High School – a school whose athletes are routinely awarded athletic college scholarships. Zach graduated from Stephenson and continued his education at Full Sail University where he received an Associate Degree in Audio Engineering. He also served in the U.S. Army from 2012-2015.

Zach was known for his big heart and big smile. You rarely saw him without a huge, dimpled smile on his face and he had an infectious laugh to go with the smile. Anytime he saw a person in need, he wanted to give the shirt off his back. He was your typical good kid. Zach was not the kind of person who would fill up the room – he was more on the quiet side. He would soak up other’s conversations and make an occasional observation, but he was much more comfortable listening to and understanding points of views.

The thing Zach most enjoyed in life was being a father. He absolutely adored his two sons, Zach, Jr. and Kyrie. He often spent quality time with his sons – teaching them, taking them to parks and playgrounds, and playing video games. Zach was very protective of his children and put them first in everything he did.

God called Zach on Wednesday, June 23, 2021 at the age of 28 years old. Zach was preceded in death by his maternal grandmothers, Mary Ethel Alston and Gladys Jennings, and his paternal grandfathers, Eddie Lee Alston and Ralph Jennings, Sr. He will be remembered by his loving parents, Victor and Decolya Jennings; brother Aaron and sister Morgan, ex-wife Kenshawna Johnson and their son Zach Jr., his fiancee, Tiffany Champion and their son Kyrie, godparents Joan and William Earley; many uncles, aunts and cousins and a host of other family and friends.

Public viewing will be Friday, July 2, 2021 from 11 to 7PM.

Funeral Services Saturday, July 3, 2021 at 11:00 am at Springhill Baptist Church, Blackstone. Interment Anderson Family Cemetery, Crewe.
