Obituary for Willie R. Nash
Willie Roosevelt Nash our beloved father, Poppie, brother, uncle and friend was called from labor to reward, when God and His infinite wisdom dispatched his angels to bring home His cherished child on Monday, October 11, 2021, while surrounded by his loved ones. Willie began his journey on January 6, 1938 in Powhatan, VA and was the eldest child born to the late Ernest and Annie Nash.

He was educated in Powhatan County and at an early age left the schoolyard and began to work to support his family. His siblings have fond memories of Willie as a provider, giving to them the things they often didn’t get from their parents. At an early age, he gave his life to Christ and joined Hollywood Baptist Church and remained a faithful member until his untimely passing.

Willie had many jobs over the years but his love to drive trucks outweighed them all. He retired from Wright’s Ready Mix (where he adopted a second family as his own) after many years of service in 2011. Willie had recently returned to work as a truck driver when needed, proving at 83 years old, he still had that gift. He loved passing time by watching getTV and westerns. In earlier years, Willie was a passionate fisherman, accompanying his good friends on several daylong fishing trips. He knew his way around the kitchen, which he credited to his mother, and he would enjoy making his favorite, a pot of great northern beans and homemade biscuits. Willie loved ice cream (specifically Blue Bell) and enjoyed a bowl as often as he could. If you had the privilege to visit with Willie, he would often offer you to sit and enjoy a few libations with him. Willie would often tell his grandchildren of his stories hauling pulpwood, his time in long Island, NY working as a teenager and about his memories of those in the community. Willie enjoyed journeying to many different events and places, and thoroughly enjoyed some of the different wineries and festivals, where he met many friends over the years.

He was united in holy matrimony on April 22, 1961 to Rosa Lee Evans and to this union they were blessed with six children. Willie was a faithful husband, and has often been referred to as the standard, as he exemplified loyalty and commitment. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Rosa; daughters, Lorraine Nash and Charlene Henley; and siblings, George & Wardell Nash and Josephine Phillips.

He leaves to cherish his beautiful memories, his children Arthur (Bonita), George (Karen), Anthony (Christine) and Kenneth (Kathleen), 10 grandchildren; Miriam (Lateefah), Tony, Tonique, Aishah, Augustus, Kiandra, Tyrell, Kenneth Michael, Kisha and Shaira, 23 great-grandchildren, sisters; Ernestine Taylor (Roger) and Geraldine Phillips; brother Harold Nash (Gail), uncle; Lee Brown; his newfound love and fiancé, Minister Alice Tyler, close friends Percell Owens, Sr. and Frank Tyler, Jr., and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Viewing Friday, October 15, 2021 from 12 to 7PM.

Graveside Service Saturday, October 16, 2021 at 12:00 Noon at Hollywood Baptist Church Cemetery, Powhatan.

Michael W. Hawkes Funeral Home of Amelia in charge of arrangements.
