Obituary for Willie A. Tucker, Sr.
On Wednesday morning, January 19, 2011 at 11:30 am, God called his son, WILLIE ARTHUR TUCKER, SR. home to his eternal peace. God looked down at St. Francis Hospital in Richmond, VA and said “Son, take my hand and follow me, Willie smiled and said, yes sir”. He left these words for those he left behind:
Don’t grieve for me; for now I’m free, I’m following the path God has laid for me. I took his hand when I heard him call, I turned my back and left it all. I could not stay another day, to laugh, to love, to sleep, to play. I did not seek fortune or fame, I just lived my life and now I’ve played my last game. Never, never be afraid to die, For I am waiting for you in the sky. “Don’t grieve for me; for now I’m free”.
Willie was born to his marvelous parents, Roy Nathaniel and Bessie Fannie Claiborne Tucker on September 14, 1947.
Willie joined and was baptized at Poplar Lawn Baptist Church at an early age. Under the leadership of Reverend Leroy Mitchell, he became a Trustee of the church. He graduated from Luther H. Foster High School in 1965 with further studies at SVCC in Lawrenceville, VA.
Willie joined the United States Army in 1966 and was Honorably discharged in 1969.
Willie married Mae Donia Alexander on August 7, 1971 and to this union a son, “Willie Arthur Tucker, Jr.” was born. His son “Beasley” as he’s called, was Willie’s treasure. There was nothing in his power that he would not do for his son.
Willie started work at Philip Morris in Richmond, VA in 1973 and he really enjoyed working there until he was injured on his motorcycle on June 6, 1999.
Willie, with the encouragement of the late George Tucker and Aldophus Hawkes became interested in the masons. He became a member of the W.H. Hughes Lodge #95 of which he was a Past Master. He was a 32nd degree mason. He was also a member of the Royal Arch E.B. Harris #64, Knights of Templar St. Johns #30 and Petersburg Consistory #144. He was also a member of Mocha Temple #7. All of this was done in a very short time, for if Willie was interested in something, he would work with bulldog determination to get it done. He had a passion for old cars and old guns.
Willie was a very outgoing and friendly person. He loved his family and his wife’s family to excess. He thought that his brother James could do anything in the world. He would always say “call Stiffie”, and lay back knowing that if it could be done, “Stiffie” would do it.
Willie will be sorely missed and our family circle is broken, but we will meet again in Heaven to mend the circle never to depart.
Willie was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Bessie Tucker; brothers, Roy “Shorty” Tucker; cousin, Howard Claiborne; brother, Thomas Tucker and brother, Clifton Tucker.
Willie leaves to cherish with fond memories: a devoted wife of forty years, Mae Alexander Tucker; son, Willie Arthur Tucker, Jr.; a granddaughter whom he loved unconditionally, Kaila C. Brown; a grandson, Willie Arthur Tucker III, whom he affectionately called “Three”; a very devoted and committed brother, James H. Tucker (Lizabeth), brother, Cloyd Tucker (Inez) and brother, Lewis L. Tucker (Ann) and his one and only sister, Shirley Tucker Hardy (Bobby). Shirley slept on hospital benches, chairs and empty beds each time he had to be hospitalized, she was his gofer; a loving sister-in-law, Bernice Alexander Marion (Sam); brothers-in-law, Harold Alexander (Jessie), Bernard Alexander (Ginny), and Gordon Alexander (Janie); his nephews, Tyrone Tucker Sr., Francis Tucker, Harold “Boogie” Tucker (Alice), Gary L. Tucker (Penny), James “Boo Boo” Tucker, Lewis L. Tucker Jr. (Stephanie), Tracy Tucker, Michael Tucker, Michael Alexander, Gerald Alexander (Lenore), Terry Plair, and Gordon “Jake” Alexander; his nieces, Dr. Carolyn Tucker (Theotis), Karen Tucker, Sandra Tucker Shaw (James), Tara Tucker Davis (Stanley), Bess Hardy, Keisha Hardy, Christin Hardy, Tawanna Alexander (Kinnie) and Brittany Marion who calls him “Uncle Fur Ball”; two very devoted cousins, Samuel Hobbs (Lena) and Edwin Tucker; devoted friends, Simon Greenhill (Doretha), and Johnny Greenhill; a host of great nieces and nephews, cousins, friends, and many devoted Philip Morris Colleagues
The family will visit with friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 6 to 7 p.m.
Funerall Services Monday, January 24, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Poplar Lawn Baptist Church, Blackstone with interment in the church cemetery.
