In humble submission to the will of God, we pause today to honor and remember the Life and legacy of a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather uncle, cousin, and friend to all. Deacon Willie Algie Perry age 79, answered the Master’s call on Saturday, November 25, 2023, at his residence in Crewe, Virginia. Willie the youngest of eight siblings was born on October 23, 1944, in Nottoway County to the union of the late James Norman Perry and Gertrude Gee Perry. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his seven siblings, Isaac, Helen, James, Mary, Richard, Ella, and Rosa.
At an early age, he was baptized and became a member of Mount Nebo Baptist Church under the pastorship of the late Rev. David E. Gordon where he remained an active member until his health began to fail. Under the guidance of Rev. Dr. Joseph Fields, he was elected as a Trustee and ordained as a Deacon in 2017 under the guidance of Rev. Dr. Damion T. Batts. He loved to sing and was a member of the Senior Choir where he never hesitated to take the mic to lead any song asked of him making a joyful noise to the Lord. He also served as Assistant Superintendent of the Sunday School, custodian, member of the Men’s Ministry, the Men’s Chorus, and as an usher. He also treasured being a member and singing with The Friendly Five.
Willie attended Nottoway County Public Schools and graduated from Luther H. Foster High School in the class of 1964. He attended Southside Vocational School. He enlisted in the United States Army and received an honorable discharge. His job experience as a Boiler Technician landed him in various locations including John Hopkins Hospital, Nottoway Correctional Center, Norfolk Shipyard, and Bellwood where he retired in February 2006.
Deacon Perry was a jack of all trades and loved doing anything he could to help his family and friends.
On April 14, 1993, he was united in Holy Matrimony to the former Juanita Randall.
He leaves to cherish his memory a loving and devoted wife, Deaconess Juanita; two loving and devoted daughters, Cortrina and Tarlisaer (James); two granddaughters, Ketara, and Tia; two nephews Herman and Henry; four nieces, Euphesenia, Alicia (Mark), Sandra, and Angela; three sisters-in-law, Mariam Randall, Angela Braswell and Betty Ricks; one brother-in-law, Michael Budd; several great, and great-great nieces and nephews and a host of cousins and other friends.
