A Time To Be Born
Deacon William U. Holmes was born January 19, 1943, to the late Eddie and Mary Holmes in Amelia, VA.
A Time To Plant
William was educated in the Amelia County Public School System. He was a member and attended the Southside Deacons Conference and he loved his church. He was preceded in death by his siblings, George, Rosa, Eddie, Robert Lee and Arthur.
A Time To Embrace
At an early age he began his Christian walk. He was baptized and joined the Zion Hill Presbyterian Church and later joined the Food Hope Baptist Church, both in Amelia, VA.
A Time To Build Up
William married Maizie Johnson on December 5, 1964, and to this union two children were born, Karen (she preceded him in death) and Shauna; he also raised two other children, Darlene and Anthony Chalkley. William loved hunting, fishing, farming, gardening, riding the tractor and supervising. He was employed by Alexander Wingo, building houses in Amelia, VA, Veneer Plant in Burkeville, VA, Alleghany Warehouse and Old Dominion Trucking, both in Richmond, VA.
A Time To Mourn
It was early Tuesday morning, January 21, 2020, when William quietly and peacefully answered God’s call to come home at Bon Secours St. Francis Medical Center in Chesterfield, Va.
A Time To Weep And A Time To Laugh
William leaves to celebrate and thank God for his beautiful life: his devoted wife, Maizie Holmes of Crewe, VA two daughters, Darlene Chalkley of Richmond, VA and Shauna Neal (Chris) of Amelia, VA; one son, Anthony Chalkley of Crewe, VA; granddaughter, Ava Chalkley; one expected grandson, Messiah Neal; one sister, Isabelle “Honey” Townes of Manhattan, NY; brothers and sisters-in-law, James Johnson of Amelia, VA, Harold (Juiett) Johnson of Crewe, VA; Sandria Johnson of Delaware, Pansy Johnson of Crewe, VA, Theresa Holmes and Charlene Holmes of New York; two devoted friends, Donald Mack and James Muse; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Services: Monday, January 27, 2020 at 11AM at Good Hope Baptist Church, Jetersville, VA.
Internment: Church's cemetery.
