Obituary for William Rogers Hanks, Sr.
William Rogers Hanks, Sr., the son of Dorothy Hanks Carr and Henry Mickey was born June 2, 1942 in Baltimore, MD.  He was reared in Crewe, VA and attended Nottoway County Public Schools.
Hanks met his wife Jean (Carolyn) Eppes in high school and they were married in February of 1965.  They were together for forty-two years.  To this union two children were born, one daughter and one son. Hanks and Jean moved to Raleigh, NC in 1984 where he became gainfully employed by Kaiser Permanente.  He worked there until he retired on disability from the complications of diabetes.
He accepted Christ and joined Morningstar Baptist Church World Ministries under the leadership of the Pastor Marshall Brunson.
On November 24, 2007, God called his soul home to rest, ending his struggles.
He leaves to cherish his memory:  his wife Jean (Carolyn); his mother, Dorothy H. Carr; daughter, Felita Hanks Jackson of Woodbridge, VA; son, William Hanks, Jr. of Raleigh, NC; two grandchildren, Jay and Jordan Jackson; one son-in-law, Jeffery Jackson; one daughter-in-law, Chante’ Hanks; first cousins, Donald Hanks (G.P.) of Rochester, NY and Shirley Hanks of Baltimore, MD; two brothers, Robert and Michael Mickey, two sisters, Ellen M. Fields and Myra M. Suggs, all of Baltimore, MD; his mother-in-law, Margaret Eppes (whom he adopted as his mom); three sisters-in-law, Joann Mickens (Frank) of Jackson, MS, Sharon Hanley (J.T.) of Waldorf, MD and Cynthia Hudson of Hampton, VA; three brothers-in-law, Roger Eppes (Jenny) of Newport News, VA, Thomas Eppes of Jackson, MS and Michael Eppes (Tichi) of Richmond, VA and a host of other cousins, relatives and friends.  Hanks never met a stranger because of his love to talk.  We will truly miss him. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, November 29 at 1:00 p.m. from Eleven Oaks Baptist Church, Crewe, VA with interment in the Hanks Family Cemetery, Crewe, VAW.E. Hawkes & Son Funeral Home of Blackstone in charge of the arrangements.
