Obituary for William M. Lucas
William Mack Lucas was called to heaven to rest with God in eternity on Tuesday, August 22, 2017.Â
William was born on May 4, 1934, in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Shortly after high school, he joined the United States Army and eventually joined the United States Air Force, from which he retired in 1979. His combined military service totaled over twenty-six years, with several tours of duty, including Vietnam and Korea. Master Sergeant Lucas was a decorated service member, having earned several medals, including the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal, and the Air Force Commendation Metal (2nd Oak Leave Cluster). He later served his country as a federal police officer, retiring this time as a civil servant. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of over fifty years, the late Sadie Louise Lucas; his Mother-in-Law, Mary Lindsay; and one sibling, the late Lillian Cox.
William was united to Sadie in holy matrimony in June 1965. This union brought forth four children who were nurtured and flourished underneath their parents’ attentive loving care. William’s love, memories and kind-hearted spirit will be cherished by his children; Shirley Lucas, of Blackstone, VA; Reginald Lucas, of Washington, DC; W. Leon Lucas (Wanda), of Columbus, GA; and Mary Lucas Smith (Gary), of Fayetteville, GA; his grandchildren, Tiara Robinson (Nicholas), of Columbus, GA; Patrice Watts (Latavius), of Columbus, GA; Patrick Pearson, of Columbus, GA; Keona Wright, of Blackstone, VA; Jireh Lucas, of Albany, GA; Gary W. Smith III, of Fayetteville, GA and Ryan Smith, of Fayetteville, GA; along with a host of great-grand children, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and life-long friends.Â
Perhaps they are not the stars, but rather openings in heaven where the love of our lost ones pours through and shines down upon us to let us know they are happy. William is now at rest in the loving arms of God. Take comfort in knowing that he is at peace. Â
