Obituary for William L. Watson
William (Bill) Watson, age 72 of Crewe, VA departed this life at Johnston-Willis Hospital in Richmond, VA on May 29, 2022.

Bill was born February 8, 1950 to the union of the late Mahlon, Sr. and Lucille Watson in Crewe, VA. He attended public schools in Nottoway County and received higher education from Strayer University in Washington, D.C. where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. After completing college, Bill was employed as an Accountant by several major corporations, Gulf Reston, Reston, Virginia, Gulf Oil, San Juan, Puerto Rico, Xerox Corporation, Pittsburgh, PA, Xerox Corporation, Rochester, NY, Wilson-Hill and Associates, Washington, D.C. and JHM Research and Development, Silver Spring, MD. In recent years, Bill was self-employed as a vendor of military caps and accessories at Joint Base Myer Henderson Hall, Ft Myer, VA. He also enjoyed vending at Pinochle and Bridge tournaments.

Bill was an avid traveler but his passions were talking, laughing and meeting new people. He enjoyed traveling both domestically and internationally. In recent years, Bill traveled to Egypt, Singapore, Seoul, Shanghai, Istanbul, Berlin, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Italy, Croatia, Greece, Cape Town, Johannesburg, Kenya and New York. He loved spending time with his family and particularly family vacations.

Bill accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Mt Nebo Baptist Church where he participated in Sunday school and was a member of the junior choir. After relocating to Alexandria, VA he joined Bethlehem Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. James Kearse.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents Mahlon, Sr. and Lucille Watson, paternal grandparents Lewis and Grace Watson, maternal grandparents Morris and Lizzie Oliver, brothers-in-law Franklin Merritt, Sr. and Hubbard Stewart, sisters-in-law Rayzelle Watson and Christine Watson and niece Bernell Copes.

Memories of Bill will forever be cherished by his siblings Mahlon Watson, Jr., Crewe, VA, Robert Watson, Blackstone, VA, Carolyn Stewart, Fort Washington, MD, Dorothy Merritt, Fort Washington, MD and Bernice Vaughan (Kenneth), Alexandria, VA, one aunt, Virginia (Kit) Oliver, Hempstead, NY, seven nieces and nephews Delores Baskin (Willie), Keith Vaughan, Angela Wynes (Todd, Sr.), Kim Stewart, Kisha Watson, Denise Galloway (Jonathan) and Franklin Merritt, Jr., devoted cousin Lucille Oliver, special friends Patricia Wood, Diane Littlejohn, Toni Turner, Connie Barr, Roberta Staples and Valarie Carter and a host of beloved great & great-great nieces and nephews, cousins, extended family and lifetime friends.

Viewing Friday, June 3, 2022 from 1 to 7PM. Funeral Services Satruday, June 4, 2022 at 11:00AM at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, Blackstone. Interment Crewe Cemetery, Crewe.
