Obituary for William L. Hoggard
William Lee Hoggard, son of the late William Hoggard and Minerva Seaborn was born October 2, 1942.  He departed this life on Tuesday, January 19, 2016.  He was married to Jean Carol Hoggard, who preceded him in death, and to this union seven children were born.  He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jean Darlene Hoggard Everett on September 4, 2015; and a sister Mattie Bowers on February 12, 2014.
William, also known as “Hawk”, “Buddy”, “Cadillac Bill” and “Bill” was a gentle giant, one who spoke many words of wisdom and he had love and kindness in his heart for those he met.  He would always say, “I will always help others when and where I can because I never know when someone will have to help me.”
William worked at Mountainside Hospital, Montclair, NJ for thirty-eight years in the dietary department, retiring in October 2004.  While working there he played a great role in organizing the Union 1199J in the hospital, because he felt that all workers should have representation.  He proudly served as a Union Delegate until he retired.  After moving to Blackstone, he worked for Wandling Corporation at Fort Pickett for five years.
Now we get to the McDonald’s Club.  He loved his buddies there and would not have taken anything for the friendship that they shared.  He had a favorite seat and a favorite parking space.  He looked forward to seeing them on a daily basis.  Every morning he would say “Time to go and punch in.”
Above all, William had strong faith, trust and belief in God.  He put everything in God’s hand for Him to work it out.  He loved his Sunday School class and looked forward to attending on a regular basis.  He enjoyed participating in the lesson’s discussion, “putting his two-cents worth into it.”  he would come up with some remarks that kept you laughing.  Attending Gospel singing was another favorite of his.
William leaves to cherish his memories: his children, Michael Hoggard of Tacoma, WA, Jennifer (Wilbert) Rawlings of Branchville, VA, Charlie Hoggard of Bloomfield, NJ, George Hoggard and Sandra Hoggard of Seaboard, NC and Terrell Hoggard of Branchville, VA; a special friend and companion Rose Mary Jones of Blackstone, VA; sister-in-law Ada Marie Hardy; brother-in-law, John (Eleanor) Bragg; other relatives and friends.  He also had much love and respect for Ronnie Scott (a dear friend of his departed daughter, Darlene).  He loved his family, but one grandson, Jeremiah, he admired and called him “The Survivor”.
