Obituary for William H. Booker
William Henry Booker affectionately known as “Hoot to his family and friends” and “Pa Pa to his grandchildren,” was born to the late Tom Hammond and late Mary Booker Pitchford on May 23, 1948, in Amelia, V.A. Hoot went home to be with the Lord after a long-term illness on Monday, March 7, 2022, at his home here in Amelia.
Hoot received Christ Jesus as his Lord and Savior as a young child and was baptized at the Mount Olive Baptist Church here in Amelia. In 2018 Hoot Re-dedicated his life to Jesus and joined the Union Branch Baptist Church here in Amelia.
Hoot was educated in the Amelia County Public Schools. He was a hard worker and an incredibly talented Brick Mason. His last employment was at the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice Maintenance Department in Bon Air, Va. Following his retirement, He enjoyed cooking, gardening, yard work, working on his antique car and talking with Mary Ann & Delia on the phone.
Hoot was preceded in death by; his father, Tom Hammond, his mother, Mary Booker Pitchford and his one and only sister; Celia P. Barley (David) all of Amelia, Va.
Hoot will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him. He enjoyed the simple things in life. He was a great provider, devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was a man that was always prepared, he never liked to be late, he was always willing to help and was very giving and never stingy with anything. He enjoyed eating good food and often said he was “not going to leave his belly in anyone’s hand”. He leaves to cherish his fond memories: his very loving and devoted wife of 49 years Lavada S. Booker affectionately known as “Vita”; three daughters, Donna Lee (Larry) of Farmville, VA, Darlene Brown (Richard) of Amelia, VA, and Demetria Holman (Bobie) of Amelia, VA; three grandchildren, Damien, Davita and Darlena Brown all of Amelia, VA; three step grandchildren, Trevon Holman, Tysha Shepherdson and RiDarius Brown; mother-in-law, Dorothy Sheff of Amelia, VA; six brothers-in-law, three sisters-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and beloved friends.
