Obituary for William B. Payne
William Bruce Payne was born December 9, 1944 in Meherrin, VA to Etta Payne and the late James H. Payne. He entered into eternal rest on Saturday, March 6, 2010.
William was educated in the Lunenburg County school system in Virginia. He was baptized and joined Levi Baptist church at an early age. At a young age he made his home in New York City and later moved to Paterson, NJ. From a previous marriage to Bobbie Ann Nichols two children were born. In 1996 he married Irene McKenzie.
He worked for many years at ARC Express Trucking Company as a truck driver and from February 2002 he has worked at Perfect Limo in Montvale, NJ as a limousine driver.
William was a hard-worker and very dedicated to everything that he set his mind on. He loved to travel and was a huge Dallas Cowboys fan. He had a strong and infectious personality and left a lasting impression on people when he met them. The one thing is if you knew William you knew he was always moving and on the go and he made you feel you had to be on the go too.
William leaves to cherish his fond memories: his loving mother Etta Payne; his wife Irene McKenzie; two daughters, Kimberlin Matthews (Derrick) and LaVosha Payne-Prescott (Shelton) both of E. Orange, NJ; stepdaughter Elizabeth McKenzie and stepson Larry McKenzie both of Paterson, NJ; his precious grandchildren he loved very much: D’aija Talley and Lamar McMillan; and Godson Wesley Payne. He also leaves one brother Charles Ingram of Baltimore, MD; three sisters: Phyllis Jones and Rachel Frances Davis of Meherrin, VA and Gladys Wells of Richmond, VA; 5 sister-in-laws; 1 brother-in-law; special friends Cicero and BoBo and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
William will be greatly missed.
Funeral Services Monday, March 15, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at Levi Baptist Church, Greenbay, VA with interment in the church cemetery.
W.E. Hawkes & Son Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
