Obituary for William Albert Harris
WILLIAM ALBERT HARRIS, quietly and peaceful passed from this earthly life into eternal rest on Saturday, September 20, 2008 at the Community Memorial Healthcenter in South Hill, VA.
William, the oldest of eleven children was born to the late McKinley and Mamie Harris on April 29, 1928 in Nottoway County, VA.
He was educated in the Nottoway County Public Schools. He joined and became a member of the New Prospect Baptist Church at a very early age.
He was employed with his brother, L.V. Harris of Harris Roofing and Heating Inc., for a number of years. He moved to New York where he had various occupations. In 2006, he returned home due to failing health and became a resident of Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Blackstone, VA.
Williams always enjoyed life to the fullness. He had a way of saying things to make you laugh. We will miss him, but he will always be in our hearts.
He leaves to cherish his memories: a daughter, Linda Franklin (Steven) and one grandson, Isaiah Robinson of District Height, MD; one granddaughter, Ebony Bowser of Green Belt, Maryland; four sisters, Virginia L. Harris, very devoted and caring, of Blackstone, VA, Barbara H. Carpenter (Otis) of Gasburg, VA, Eyvonne M. Harris of Kenbridge, VA and Vannice A. Harris of Blackstone, VA; two brothers, Jon D. Harris (Mary) of Crewe, Virginia and L.V. Harris (Lanette) of Blackstone, VA; two aunts, Mabel Gaines of Brooklyn, NY and Caroldine Wallace of Norfolk, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services Thursday, September 25, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. at New Prospect Baptist Church, Blackstone with interment in the Harris Family Cemetery, Blackstone.
W.E. Hawkes & Son Funeral Home of Blackstone in charge of the arrangements.
