Obituary for William A. Friend
William (June) Alfred Friend, Jr. was called home to be with the Lord on Monday, November 26, 2012. He was preceded in death by his son Bryant Friend and sister Helen Thompson.
He joined Mt. Level Baptist Church and accepted the Lord at an earlier age. He also participated in the adult choir.
June served as a veteran in the Korean War, member of the Welcome In Social Club, member of the VFW, participated in a gospel singing group, top mechanic at the Petersburg Master Chevrolet and with his talent he opened his own mechanic shop and provided assistance to the entire neighborhood and surrounding area. He was also a great gardener who shared greatly during harvest time.
He was united in marriage to his devoted wife Marion Friend for 63 years.
He also leave to cherish three sons Vincent, Alfred and Ronald (Andrea); three daughters-in-law Olivia, Pearl and Linda; nine grandchildren Travis, Larry, Ivan, Shawna, Rashawna, Marc, Jacquez (Shonita), Dion and Raheem; six great grandchildren; four god children Willard (Spoon), William (Tank), Gilbert and Eartha; one sister Elma; three sisters-in-law Thelma, Ruth and Florence; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. He also cherished his family and friends who assisted him in his time of need, especially Vanessa Friend (favorite niece), Freddie Evans, Beatrice Head, Meriweather Walker and George Friend.
Funeral Services Friday, November 30, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at W.E. Hawkes & Son Funeral Home Chapel, Blackstone with interment in the Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia.
