Will Roger Holmes, Sr. of Locust Groove, VA departed this life September 24, 2007, at Culpeper Rehabilation Center in Culpeper, VA. He was born February 9, 1940 in Dinwiddie County, VA to Gertrude Holmes and the late Wilbur Clark. Will was a very hard worker, he started working when he was thirteen years of age and worked until he became ill in June of this year.He loved to fish and enjoyed spending time with his familyand friends.He leaves to cherish his memory: his dear wife, Ethel Holmes; his five children and their spouses, Will and Candace Holmes of New Jersey, Rodney and Kathleen Holmes of North Carolina, Nadine and Clifton Johnson of Culpeper, VA, Calvin and Debbie Blackwell of Unionville, VA and Joan Warren of Richmond, VA; his mother, Gertrude Holmes; one sister, Pauline Malone; two brothers, William Lee Holmes and Emmanuel Holmes; one aunt, Corine Holmes; sixteen grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one brother-in-law; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including close friends, Louis and Leslie Warr, George Robinson, Sharon Young, and David Raymond.Viewing will be Thursday, September 27 after 1:00 p.m.Funeral Services will be held Friday, September 28, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. from the chapel of W.E. Hawkes & Son Funeral Home, 504 East Street, Blackstone, VA. Interment in the Greenview Cemetery, Blackstone.W.E. Hawkes & Son Funeral Home, Blackstone in charge of arrangements.
