Obituary for Westmoreland G. Thompson, Jr.
Early on Tuesday morning, July 5, 2016, the Lord saw fit to call Westmoreland Thompson from his earthly labors. He was born in Amelia, Virginia, the son of the late West and Pearl Thompson. He received his formal education in Amelia County High School in Class of 1971.

At an early age West accepted Christ and joined Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where he continued to remain and served as a trustee and a dedicated member. He was employed at Richfood Inc. for over 30 years. During his many years of gainful employment, he continued to work diligently for the Lord. West’s grandfather, Richard Thompson II started the Pleasant Grove Harvest Bazaar back in the late 1900’s and after his death, West Jr. continued it. West Jr. was noted for his secret recipe on cooking Pig Feet outdoors. He was the motivational “spark” adding “life” to the Bazaar with Hay Rides, horse rides and the “Pig Catching Contest”. West had a passion and love for HIS dogs, HIS cows, and HIS horses. He loved farming and riding on his tractor and four-wheeler, going hunting and fishing.

On July 12, 1975, he joined in wedlock to his childhood sweetheart, Rose Gordon from Jetersville, VA. This union was blessed with two girls. He leaves to cherish fond memories, a devoted wife, Rose, two daughters, Kimberly and Regina Thompson of Amelia, two grandchildren, Gennifer and Kourtni Thompson, one brother, Richard Thompson III (Vanessa) of Midlothian, VA, two sisters, Dorisenia Thompson of Richmond, VA and Barbara T. Eggleston (William) of Stafford, Virginia. Mother-in-law, Rose Vessels, brother-in-law, Clyde Gordon (Judy) and two sister-in-law, Marline Gordon and Gail Pegram (Tim). Aunt, Ethel B. Harris of Amelia, VA. Love and enjoyed his many nieces, nephews and cousins and his wife’s family. Really enjoyed his many many friends, too numerous to name but he loved everyone the same.

Funeral Services Saturday, July 9, 2016 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Amelia. Interment church cemetery.

Michael W. Hawkes Funeral Home of Amelia in charge of arrangements.
