Wendell Alston departed this life unexpectedly on August 15, 2023 at 11:46 am in Raleigh, NC.
Wendell was born June 24, 1967 in Warren County, NC. He was educated in the Warren County Public Schools system and after graduating high school, Wendell moved to Richmond, Virginia where he did office work for many years before making a career in security. Wendell developed his carpentry skills over the years and became a gifted carpenter. In his free time, you could find him doing two of his favorite things: fixing things and helping others. He was always ready and willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in the community in any way he could.
Aside from his love for handiwork and helping others, Wendell absolutely loved making people smile and laugh. He was known for his jovial, fun-loving, jokester personality. He never knew a stranger, as he could befriend and strike up a conversation with virtually anyone.
In 1995, Wendell married Amy Jennings, formerly of Crewe, Virginia and from this union came two wonderful children, Courtney Alston and Zion Alston. Wendell was a man of God who loved sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ to anyone he met. He joined the Sharon Seventh Day Adventist church in Crewe, Virginia where he served faithfully as an Elder for many years.
Wendell is preceded in death by his mother Sarah Seward Herrington (Warrenton, NC), his father Walter Alston (Warrenton, NC), and his brother Henry Alston (Richmond, Virginia). He is survived by his daughter Courtney Alston and son Zion Alston (both from Hampton, Virginia); one brother: Walter Alston (Warrenton, NC); four sisters: Sarah Carter (Warrenton, NC), Delores Alston (Richmond, Virginia), Helen Howard (Maryland), and Sylvia Davis (Warrenton, NC); two special cousins: Pastor Melvin Watkins and Alvin Watkins (both from Richmond, Virginia), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
While Wendell left us far too soon, the impact he had on his family, friends, and community will be felt for many years to come. We may never understand God’s timing, but we look forward to seeing Wendell again in that great getting-up morning. May God comfort our hearts until we see him again.
