Obituary for Wartena Crowder Somerville
Deaconess Wartena Gaynell Crowder Somerville departed this life suddenly May 28, 2019, in Dinwiddie County, Virginia. Perfectly consecrated by God, his angels gently scooped her up and launched her in Heaven.

Wartena was born December 22, 1982 to Warren G. Crowder and the late Deborah Harper Crowder in Halifax County, Virginia. Growing up her family had very close ties and lived in rural Mecklenburg County. At an early age she accepted Christ as her Savior and joined the Concord Baptist Church in Chase City, Virginia. She was very active allowing the Lord to use her freely singing in the Junior Choir, serving as Junior Sunday School Teacher, Youth Director, Vacation Bible Teacher, Chair for the Women and Girls Prayer Breakfast and helping in many other capacities.

Her educational journey reflects a thirst for knowledge and preparation for teaching. On June 17, 2000 she graduated from Bluestone Senior High School. After graduation in the years that followed, she received her Associate Degree from Southside Virginia Community College, Bachelor’s Degree from Longwood University and Master’s Degree from University of Phoenix.

Wartena’s professional teaching career path started in 2007 at Victoria Elementary School in Lunenburg County and transitioned several years later into Nottoway County at Crewe Primary School. She was thankful to God for blessing her with a teaching career that aligned with love and sharing her talents with children.

On July 9, 2016, she married Michael Somerville which was a dream come true as their marriage radiated with love and so much happiness. To this union they were blessed with a precious baby girl, Stephanie Harper Somerville. Wartena moved her membership to Shiloh Baptist Church in Blackstone, Virginia where they worshipped as one happy family united in Christ.

Deaconess Wartena Crowder Somerville was a kind, loving, and sweet person who loved the Lord, her family and truly touched the lives of countless people she met. She was proceeded in death by her mother, Deborah Harper Crowder; grandmother, Mary Harper and grandfathers, Albert Harper and Roosevelt Crowder.
