Obituary for Walter H. Hammond
WALTER HARRY HAMMOND was born on September 19, 1922 in Jetersville, VA. He departed this life on January 17, 2010 at Chippenham Medical Center. He was the second of four born to the late Willie and Ella Kate Hammond.
Walter was preceded in death by two brothers, William (Tom), Henry (Tet), and one sister, Sarah.
“Teenie” as he was fondly called served in World War II along with his brother Henry. He was honorably discharged on January 18, 1946.
“Teenie” will be remembered for his work as a carpenter and brick mason.
He leaves to cherish his memory: one sister-in-law, Martha L. Hammond of New Jersey; two nephews, Henry Hammond Jr. of New Jersey and William Hammond of Amelia, VA; one niece, Ella Mae Hammond of New Jersey; one great niece, Loretta H. Williams of New Jersey; a great nephew, Anthony Hammond of Mechanicsville, VA; one great-great nephew, Mark Williams of New Jersey; and a host of cousins and friends.
Funeral Services Saturday, January 23, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at Michael W. Hawkes Funeral Home Chapel, Amelia with interment in the Coleman Family Cemetery, Jetersville.
