Obituary for Wallace Bland, Sr.

On Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at St. Francis Medical Center in Midlothian, Virginia at 5:53 our Dad, Wallace Bland, Sr. was called from labor to reward. He was the fifth child born to Goldie and Earl Bland, Sr. on the eighth day of July, 1943 in Crewe, VA.


He was educated in the Nottoway Public School System and graduated from Luther H. Foster High School with the class of 1962.


He later met and married Josephine (Jeffries) Bland in 1963 and shared fifty-one years together. To this union three children were born, in addition to two other children he raised as his own.


He accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age and joined Union Baptist Church, where he was a faithful member until his health began to decline.


He started his career journey working with the Burkeville Veneer Company, after working tirelessly there for a few years, he was able to gain employment with the Norfolk-Southern Railroad and worked there until he retired on disability in 1995.


Wallace was predeceased by his wife of fifty-one years, Josephine Jeffries Bland; his parents, Goldie and Earl Bland, Sr.; one son, Michael Jeffries; two brothers, Marcus (Duckie) and Earl (Dobie) Bland, Jr.; two sisters, Dorothy Mae Oliver and Louise Bland; one nephew, Ronnie Bland; one brother-in-law, Lee Royal Oliver.


Wallace enjoyed playing cards. Bingo, Corn Hole and Dominoes during his stay in Colonial Heights Healthcare and Wellsprings of Amelia Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.


Wallace leaves to cherish fond memories: his children, Jacqueline Stokes, Wallace Bland, Jr. (Lowanda), Shelia Bland-Stith (Kent) and Brian Bland (Jacqueline); fourteen grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; one sister, Lillie (Bland) Jeffries; one brother, Edward Bland (Rowena); devoted nieces, nephews and cousins; seven sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; and a host of friends and former classmates, one devoted, William Hicks.


Viewing Saturday, October 29, 2022 from 11AM to 7PM.


Funeral Services Sunday, October 30, 2022 at Union Baptist Church, Crewe.  Interment Crewe Cemetery.
