Obituary for Vivian W. Staten
On Monday morning, January 26, 2009, MRS. VIVIAN WASHINGTON STATEN entered into eternal rest at Southside Community Hospital in Farmville, VA. Daughter of the late Greatless and Maria Washington, she was born July 29, 1940.
She was a quiet and carefree person and was loved by all who knew her. She never complained, even during her long period of illness.
Vivian received her high school diploma from Luther H. Foster High School in 1960. She was baptized in 1967 and became a member of the New Bethel Baptist Church where she enjoyed singing on the choir for many years. She was employed with the Crewe Garment Factory and Burkeville Veneer Company for many years. Vivian married the late Harry Lee Hopkins in 1968 and to this union two children were born. On July 30, 2005, she married Joseph J. Staten.
She was predeceased by a son, Clinton Larry Washington (Margaret).
Vivian leaves to cherish her loving memories: a devoted husband, Joseph J. Staten; one son, Gregory L. Hopkins (Marjorie) of Blackstone, VA; two daughters, Shelia D. Washington of Norfolk, VA and Shirl S. Bowden (Melvin) of Crewe, VA; one brother, Edward L. Washington, Sr. (Edna) of Crewe, VA; three sisters, Frances L. Little (David) of Snow Hill, NC, Claudine Yates of Crewe, VA and Alma M. Dodson of Blackstone, VA; two daughters-in-law; one sister-in-law; three brothers-in-law; four grandchildren, Candace, Kiera, Gregory and Laura; one great grandchild, Kyeon; eight nieces; four nephews; a host of great nieces/nephews, cousins and friends. Also, one devoted family friend, Michelle Knight.
Funeral Services Saturday, January 31, 2009 at 1100 A.M. at New Bethel Baptist Church, Crewe with interment in the Washington Family Cemetery, Crewe.
