Obituary for Virginia Pauline Edmonds
At 7:50 p.m. on the evening of Friday, March 7, 2008, surrounded by her loving husband, daughter and son, God summoned one of his faithful servants from her labor here on this earth to eternal rest. No farewell words were spoken, no time to say goodbye, you were gone before we knew it, and only God knows why. Our beloved, Virginia Pauline Johnson Edmonds was born June 15, 1945 to the late Nathaniel and Dorothy Booker Johnson. She was educated in the public schools of Dinwiddie County. She was a former employee of Levi Strauss in Blackstone. At an early age, she confessed Christ and became a member of the Mount Level Baptist Church, Amelia County, Virginia. There at Mount Level, she served God and her church, in whatever capacity she could while she could. She often quoted “don’t worry about a thing, God will take care of you”. Due to ill health and could no longer attend worship service regularly, she would worship through the church video ministry. She religiously watched a recorded video of each Sunday’s worship service and probably was the only member with a library of each recorded service. She leaves to cherish a legacy of precious memories, her husband of almost 41 years, Jimmie Edmonds, one son, Ronnie Johnson (Sarah) of Fayetteville, NC; one daughter, Tremoyne Johnson of Petersburg, VA; seven sisters, Annie Gee of Ford, VA; Brenda Hawkes (Don) of Wilsons, VA; Edith Bonner, Theresa Johnson and Sandra Coleman of Petersburg, VA; Geraldine Johnson of Dinwiddie, VA and Wanda Johnson of Lawrenceville, VA. Five brothers, Bobby Johnson (Marian) of Baltimore, MD; Leroy and Carl Johnson of Ford, VA, Charles Johnson (Marnita) of Petersburg, VA and Tyrone Johnson of Emporia, VA; Father-in-law, Howard Edmonds, Sr. of Blackstone, VA, two sister-in-laws, Pinkie Jefferson (Robert) and Corrine Miller (Howard) of Blackstone, VA; three brother-in-laws, Howard Edmonds, Jr. (Frances) and Richard Edmonds (Rebecca) of Blackstone, VA and Willard Edmonds (Pearl) of Ford, VA. Two granddaughters, Dameca and TaShae Johnson of Fayetteville, NC; Four aunts, Hattie Boards (Chestine) of Church Road, VA, Mary Banks (Jasper) of McKenney, VA, Alice and Cora Johnson of Petersburg, VA; one uncle, Grover Johnson (Anna) of Ford, VA. Virginia (Pauline) was a precious gift from God above, so much beauty, grace and love. She loved people and was always showing her love and concern and shared whatever she had to share. She touched our hearts in so many ways, her smile so bright even on the bad days. She was a mother figure, a mentor, especially to the children; she had a lot of love to give and didn’t mind giving it. She would often say, “Come on and give me a big one (hug)”. Her love will live on in minds and hearts, in hugs given and received, in little kindness and gentle words, in all these things her love will live on. Funeral Services Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. from Mount Level Baptist Church, Amelia with interment in the church cemetery.W.E. Hawkes & Son Funeral Home of Blackstone in charge of the arrangements.
